CLOUD COMPUTING COMPUTING/HPC
DRIVERS AND CHALLENGES
Virtualization and clustering of IT resources has become the key enabler for the concept of sharing resources thereby using IT infrastructure more efficiently. Cloud computing with its on-demand, outsourced IT resources has become a popular means for a number of key enterprise applications in order to bring down the cost for storing and/or computing data.
A parallel and similar trend in grid computing focuses on resolving complicated simulation tasks, distributing high work-loads among several sites and dispersing critical IT assets among several locations to minimize the risk of catastrophic failures. High-bandwidth, low latency interconnect protocols such as Fibre Channel or InfiniBand are key requirements to support the sharing of the above mentioned resources and it is essential that next-generation networks be able to support them.
KEY APPLICATIONS
- High bandwidth interconnect for cloud data centers
- High Performance Computing (HPC) interconnect for Research and Education (R&E) networks
- Mainframe clustering in IBM Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS®) environments
SOLUTION
The ADVA FSP 3000 platform provides a simple and cost-effective WDM solution that is designed for the requirements of the enterprise market. Besides offering high-capacity optical transport over metro and regional distances up to 40Gbit/s per optical channel, special protocols like Fibre Channel, InfiniBand or IBM GDPS® are supported.
FEATURES + BENEFITS
- Lowest cost-per-bit transport
- 120 channels of 10Gbit/s or 40Gbit/s (up to 3.6Tbit/s) with sub-wavelength aggregation (TDM)
- Extended reach through EDFA and Raman optical amplifiers supporting single span distance up to 200km
- Lowest latency transport (5 ns per card)
- Support of all enterprise specific protocols
- Fibre Channel, Ethernet, InfiniBand
- Qualified with all server, switch and storage vendors
- Low Opex and high availability
- Support of multiple protection scenarios
- Simple architecture, no user traffic over back-plane
- FSP Network/Service Manager for ease-of-use
